San Isidro 2008: 5/12 – Oreja Para Pinar y Tendero

Two Albaceteños, Rubén Pinar and Miguel Tendero turned in some inspiring performances in the first Novillada of the Feria de San Isidro in Plaza de Toros Las Ventas. Pinar showed his intelligent style of modern toreo with his first novillo from the Montealto ganaderia. Various tandas of derechazos, naturales, de pechos and cambiados performed with the technicality of years of proper preparation. Pinar was heckled by the outspoken members of Tendido Siete, but he quieted them with an effective estocada and a well deserved ear. Tendero in turn performed a varied and technically impressive faena with his second novillo. Tendero displayed a unique style of toreo with ability to torerar with the muleta low to the sand and under the novillos snout. This is impressive because Tendero is relatively tall and his “quebrando de la cintura” adds an esthetic quality to his action in the ring. If Tendero continues to develop this style, and if this is truley his natural style of toreo, he should be a novillero to watch. Tendero placed a good sword and cut an ear to reward a very interesting faena. José Ramón, ‘Chechu’ showed rust from his time from the ring having just recovered recently from two serious gorings from last year.

José Ramón, ‘Chechu’: leves pitos (media estocada caída) y silencio (estocada corta).
Rubén Pinar: una oreja (gran estocada) y ovación tras petición (estocada).
Miguel Tendero: vuelta tras petición (estocada tendida) y una oreja (estocada).
