Lo Mejor De Toros Para Todos 2008
Too much yackity yack between Enrique Romero, Maestro Ruiz Miguel and Sonia Gil for me, but the resumen on the temporada according to Canalsur is worth watching. The show reviews the highlights of not all the Spanish season, but for the most part that of the season of which Canalsur covered. I missed many of the corridas which were transmitted, but I did catch Morante de la Puebla in Villaluenga del Rosario. His performance in the stoned plaza was great. The best part was when he placed banderillas with determination and genio. Other highlights are José Tomás, Miguel Angel Perera and the scenes of the campo.

David Fandila “El Fandi” is sometimes considered the most athletic of all toreros today. Never mind his past inclusion on the Spanish youth National Ski Team, or his soccer player physic. “El Fandi” places banderillas mostly every afternoon he performs. He owns the ring and perfected the act of al quarteo while running backward. And as if placing banderillas backward wasn’t enough, he’ll run the bull to a standstill while running… backward. While in New York to attend the premiere of The Matador, “El Fandi” decided to get talked into running the New York Marathon. Most people who run marathons usually train for the challenge. Not “El Fandi”. This how ever did present him with a challenge. Being a top Matador, “El Fandi” is in physical shape but training to bullfight is much different than training to run 26 miles. “El Fandi” his brother Juan Alvaro Fandila and Rodrigo Rufo del Castillo, Fandila’s mozo de espada and a friend ended up running together and finishing the race 13 minutes after his targeted time of 5 hours. Not bad for a Matador who didn’t train for it and spent the day before stuffing his face with New York hot dogs and pizza. Read more about “El Fandi’s” New York adventure in this
