]]> Comment on Un Nuevo Respecto Por El Maestro Manolo Martínez by Anthony Figueroa http://www.darkbrownbuckets.com/wp/?p=521&cpage=1#comment-11178 Anthony Figueroa Tue, 28 Feb 2012 21:07:21 +0000 http://www.darkbrownbuckets.com/wp/?p=521#comment-11178 I lived in Mexico City in the late 70's early 80's trying to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a matador de toros.In my opinion Manolo was very artistic and his grasp of "temple",slowing the bulls charge,and knowing the distance to dominate the animal made him one of the greatest Mexican matadors of all time.Much like Curro Rivera his repertoire with the capote and muleta was very limited and predictable during this time frame.He as well as Curro were chastised by the Spaniards for fighting with too much "pico",the tail end of the muleta.This was considered very advantageous and not in the purest form of bullfighting.Having seen both of these matadors in various rings many times neither compares to the Spanish greats such as Paco Camino,Antonio Ordonez,El Viti or Enrique Ponce.It is very rare that a Mexican matador triumphs in Spain on a regular basis.The difference in bulls,the knowledge of the public and the overall professionalism of the bullfight comes into play.Either way nothing compares to the ambiance,fear,or personalities that La Fiesta Brava offers.
